OTTAWA, ON, Sept. 17, 2026 /CNW/ -- Electricity Canada announced the launch of its new Affordability Hub, a national online resource designed to help Canadians find and access financial support for their bills through electricity affordability programs and incentives available in their communities. The Affordability Hub can be accessed through Electricity Canada's website: electricity.ca/bills.
Electricity Canada's 2024 affordability study reported that one in three respondents were extremely or very concerned that an increase beyond inflation could affect their ability to pay their bills. Electricity providers have aimed to address this concern through affordability programs and incentives available through local utilities, provincial incentives or federal programming.
Even with these programs in place, awareness remains a significant barrier: nearly half of Canadians do not know financial support is available.
The Electricity Canada Affordability Hub includes details on eligibility requirements, potential savings opportunities and application information. Approximately half of the programs featured are designed specifically to support vulnerable populations, including low-income households, seniors, newcomers to Canada and single-parent families.
To help reach Canadians most affected by affordability pressures, Electricity Canada and its members are working with local community organizations, such as food banks to distribute promotional materials to help connect Canadians with electricity affordability programs and bill supports. Developed with input from Electricity Canada and its member companies, the Affordability Hub will continue to evolve as new programs and supports become available.
