Gift to the "Built for Us" campaign honours a father's legacy and enables community gifts to be matched

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 29, 2026 /CNW/ -- Trillium Health Partners Foundation today announced a $10 million commitment from the Myhal Family Foundation in support of Built for Us, Trillium Health Partners Foundation's historic $1 billion fundraising campaign. Through their gift, Rayla and George Myhal are inviting the community to give what it can. Each donation will be matched, dollar for dollar.

The Myhal Family Foundation's $10 million commitment will support Built for Us, Trillium Health Partners Foundation’s historic $1 billion fundraising campaign.

The gift will help advance the largest hospital redevelopment project in Canadian history, supporting The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children, and the redevelopment of what will become The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre.

For the Myhal family, the gift is deeply personal. It carries forward the legacy of Rayla's father, Mehraj Din, who received care at Trillium Health Partners, was a well-respected member of the community, and who believed deeply in the power of philanthropy. He encouraged others to "give with an open heart," a value the family hopes their gift will pass on to a new generation of donors.

"I have seen what great care can mean to a family in its hardest moments," says Rayla Myhal, President and Director of the Myhal Family Foundation. "George and I believe that when a community comes together, it can build something none of us could build alone. We hope this gift inspires others to join us, and that every person who gives knows their contribution matters."

Because the Myhal Family Foundation believes philanthropy is most powerful when it moves others to act, its gift will match all donations over the coming months starting on October 29, 2026.

"Rayla and George have given our community something more than a gift. They've given us a catalyst that will further inspire support," says Caroline Riseboro, President and CEO, Trillium Health Partners Foundation. "Their gift means every donation, at every level, now goes even further in building hospitals that are truly built for us. We're deeply grateful for their leadership, and I know this community will rise to meet it."

The Myhal Family Foundation's gift is designed to inspire new donors alongside grateful patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and community members, inviting everyone to play a part in building Canada's next generation of health care.

"We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reimagine health care for our community and our country, creating a system that is more proactive, connected and personalized, and designed around the people it serves," says Karli Farrow, President and CEO, Trillium Health Partners. "Communities build hospitals, and transformational generosity from families like the Myhals is helping us build a better, stronger future for health care. On behalf of Team THP, thank you to Rayla and George for helping bring that future to life."
